Link to the complete proposals:

Proposal 1: Introducing a socio-cultural weekend with the objective of spreading and preserving the various art forms of India from the different states to as wide a target audience as possible along with development of overall social sense of responsibility among the student community.

Need: It certainly is a first-of-its-kind proposal which tries to align the development of socio-cultural acumen of the student community while tackling the age old problem of preserving traditional art forms.

Implementation: Over the years, short term proposals like the ‘Women’s
week’ have failed to have any long-standing impact. This proposal will also lose out with no real long term plans included in the brief. The socio-cultural weekend also tries to focus on activities already present in the General Championship (GC) rather than new ones which would have had a higher participation. Also there is a distinct lack of detail in the proposal which makes us doubt whether this will ever be realized.

Impact: When put into perspective, the only positive impact that this proposal has is that students will have a tangible basis to justify the claim that their stay at IIT-KGP has exposed them to diverse traditions.

Proposal 2: Systemizing the preparations for Inter-IIT Cultural Meet through introduction of events in the Open IIT Calendar as well as streamlining of the selection process.

Need: This tackles the imminent issue regarding the selection of
contingent of events not currently part of the Open-IIT/GC calendar.

Implementation: The proposal only mentions about the selection and does not dwell into the training/nurturing of selected individuals. The proposal also lacks any information of judges for these events who could also have doubled up as trainers. In fact, the write-up of the proposal screams of laziness and generic ideas.

Impact: The proposal would have immense importance if it included the
recognition/training of mentioned events by the appropriate society.

Proposal 3: Introducing a Literary Fest in Spring Fest 2018 by expanding the horizons of the existing literary events and by adding new events to the genre, along with workshops and guest lectures.

Need: Some events in Spring Fest usually go under the radar and introducing a separate Literary fest would help increase visibility and participation.

Implementation: Implementation could be an issue for some of the events, like the book fair, so we would have liked to see more details mentioned. Also, ‘Open Mic’ seems to be the buzzword for proposals this year.

Impact: There are bigger issues plaguing SF, and adding a literary
fest doesn’t seem to be particularly impactful.
