Charting Your Career Course: From Setbacks to Success

Believe it or not, I have had a few setbacks and disappointments when it comes to work, however, I once found myself in a situation where I aimed to expand my role at a previous job. Already exceeding expectations, I saw an opportunity for a different position that perfectly matched my skill set. After engaging in weeks of interviews, discussions with my superiors, and making it to the final selection stage, I was ultimately passed over for the role which was then handed over to someone who had no genuine interest in it.

While such a scenario might leave many feeling disheartened today I want to approach it from a different perspective — one of resilience, self-awareness, and strategic growth. Initially, I felt heartbroken and frustrated, why would management overlook my consistent dedication to the organization? Why would they pass over the role to someone else who didn’t even apply for it? However, rather than dwelling on my disappointment, I chose to continue excelling in my role and map out a plan to better understand myself, sharpen my skills, and position myself for the career growth I deserved.
