The Inkey List Skincare Review: Inkey List Omega Water Cream Moisturizer

I’m going to be completely honest with you. I am not a fan of moisturizers — never was, never have. I have oily skin and they just scare me because they always leave my skin looking oiler than it already is, which I don’t like.

But after damaging my skin protective barrier by over-exfoliating with physical scrubs, I knew I needed an affordable moisturizer to help repair my damaged skin barrier. I specifically wanted a moisturizer with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, glycerin and ceramides in its formulation to help strengthen and repair my skin barrier.

That’s how I came across this moisturizer from the Inkey List.

In this post, I am going to be giving my honest review on The Inkey List Omega Water Cream.

Who Is The Inkey List?

The Inkey List Skincare was co-founded by both Colette Laxon and Mark Curry in 2018 with a belief that better knowledge powers better decisions. The founders believe that skincare should be simple for consumers and not confusing which is why most of their products focus on one main ingredient or a small number of ingredients.

Just like The Ordinary, the Inkey List are one of the most popular skincare brands that provide their customers with high-quality skincare products on a budget.

All of their products are cruelty-free — not sold in any country that requires animal testing. And the best part is, not only is their formula super effective, most of their products are also under $15.

Which is a good thing because I love affordable skincare products.

According To The Inkey List Website:

The Inkey List Omega Water Cream is an intense hydrating moisturizer that packs a heavy punch of hydration and moisturizes your skin leaving it feeling soft and plump. It’s benefits include:

•It is a lightweight water-based gel moisturizer that immediately hydrates your skin without being oily.

•It supports a healthy skin barrier(we love that) without the presence of silicone or oils in its unique formulation

•It is also dermatologist-tested.

•It’s vegan, cruelty-free and safe for pregnant women

•Clinically proven to reduce the quantity of sebum in greasy skin after 28 days (It’s true)

•Should be applied AM and PM.

•Targets people who have dehydrated skin.

•Has Niacinamide which helps brightens skin.

•Fragrance-free.

Its Main Ingredients:

a. Omega Fatty Acid Complex: Contains Omega 3, 6 and 9 to help reduce transepidermal water loss, act as building blocks in skin cells to strengthen the skin’s epidermis for smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin.

Omega fatty acids in skincare also retain moisture in the skin, improve firmness and elasticity, nourish dehydrated skin, repair the skin barrier to improve moisture and elasticity, regulate oil production and reduce signs of UV induced damage.

b. 5% Glycerin: Glycerin also known as Glycerin or Glycerol is an odourless and colourless liquid that is derived from vegetables or animal fats. It is used to relieve dry skin, hydrate and strengthen the skin barrier and treat wounds and skin irritations.

A study done in 2016 found glycerin to be the most effective humectant that increases hydration levels in the skin. Even more than hyaluronic acid.

c. 3% Betaine: Is an amino acid which is a gentle non–irritating hydrating humectant. It helps improve water retention, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, soothes irritated skin and softens skin texture. Betaine works well with all skin types and most skincare ingredients.

d. 5% Niacinamide: One of the most raved about skincare ingredients by dermatologists worldwide because of its ability to regulate oil production. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B that is also known as nicotinamide.

Niacinamide is well-loved for its ability to work with almost every skincare ingredient and it also boosts the efficiency of other moisturizing ingredients.

How To Use The Inkey List Omega Water Cream

Make sure your skin is damp, then apply a bit sized amount on your skin and spread evenly.

Price

$9.99 for 50ml

Packaging and Price:

I don’t care for over the top packaging because I like to focus on the ingredient list, however, I like the Inkey List packaging. It’s very simple and minimalistic. All you need to do is squeeze out the product from the tube.

The product is also travel–friendly because it’s so tiny that it can easily fit right into your makeup or skincare bag without it occupying much space.

Texture and Consistency

I hate thick and heavy moisturizers because of my oily skin and one thing I loved about this moisturizer is the fact that it’s lightweight on my skin. It lives up to its name as it felt like I was applying water to my skin.

That’s how lightweight it was.

It’s lightweight consistency makes it easy to apply and blend seamlessly without it ever feeling too heavy. With this moisturizer, applying a little bit of it goes a long way.

It also has a gel-like consistency which makes it glide nicely onto the skin, easy to absorb and spread evenly unto the skin. It also has no scent whatsoever, so If you have sensitive, dehydrated or acne-prone skin, you would like this cream.

MY FINAL VERDICT

I’m torn.

I liked the moisturizer because it helped repair my damaged skin barrier and reduce sebum production.

I didn’t like it because I’m very picky when it comes down to selecting a face moisturizer and every time I applied the moisturizer, my skin would feel hydrated but it made my skin look oilier.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing for most people but I like my moisturizer to dry out matte on my skin.

I could definitely see myself using The Inkey List Omega Water cream in the night. Overall, I think the Inkey List Omega Water cream is a great and affordable moisturizer for everyday use. It doesn’t pill and applies wonderfully under sunscreen and makeup.

If you love a dewy-glow look to your skin, the Inkey List Omega Water cream gives just that. I would 100% recommend this moisturizer to people who have dehydrated, damaged skin barrier and irritated skin.
