There is rarely any acknowledgement of how *difficult* it is to override the gendered messages we are subconsciously picking up from a person’s body, energy, and pheromones with nothing but the knowledge that they prefer a certain pronoun or identify a certain way.
Those subconscious “gendered messages” are called cissexism, which is drilled into us by family and social institutions from an early age and constantly reinforced in societies like ours. Gendering people on sight is a conditioned response that we learn over time, and yes — like all conditioned behaviors it can be difficult to stop. But blaming our socially conditioned gendering of another human being on their “energy” or “pheronomes” is some pseudoscientific nonsense, not to mention grossly transphobic. You don’t have to be that well-versed in trans activism to know that.
Also, given how much racism and ableism skew our understanding of gender and bodies, you really want to be careful about gendering or sexualizing folks based on your limited perception of their looks or “energy.”
