Secret Treasure at the Urban Area

Where is the closest green park around you? Well, I guess it is a bit hard for you to figure it out if you are living in Hong Kong. I can only name several famous parks in Hong Kong. Actually, we do have a list of huge leisure space Hong Kong. Basically, you can find at least one major green park at your district.For example, Penfold Park at Sha Tin, Tsing Yi Park at Kwai Tsing District, etc.. Yet, the number of the public leisure area is never enough for this high-density city. There are around 80 large parks in Hong Kong. A population of 7.3 million (in 2015) sharing this small amounts of parks at the urban area is obviously a disaster. Maybe you would say that there is a small leisure area at the corner of the street. The reality is who would love to rest and breathe in the polluted air at this dirty corner? Every time there is a discussion about raising fund for developing parks will turn to be a controversial issue. It is well known that Hong Kong is a small city without proper land for residential area. The advocates always argue that lands should be prioritized for building public housing. This is certainly correct. But, you cannot overlook that there is a plenty of undeveloped areas. You can also not neglect the advantages of public leisure zones at urban area for citizens.

Urban planners have indicated that urban parks bring a myriad of benefits to a society. Especially ,a stressful city like Hong Kong, urban parks could definitely reduce the stress level of local people. Think about it, having a beer and laying down on the grass at the urban park is such a cool thing. Also, some studies indicate that people living nearby the urban parks get lower chance of having obesity, because they have places to take a walk. Meanwhile, the greenery could absorb the pollution at the city. So, why shouldn’t we agree on having more urban parks at Hong Kong?
