Top tech conferences & journals to attend or submit a paper to

From looking at the descriptions of various tech jobs posted by companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft etc. I noticed that many of them will view a candidate as a promising one if they have some published research work. I noticed most of them name the same few top prestigious conferences.

So if you are a researcher of an aspiring one, it might benefit you to submit your work in the below conferences or attend them to get some exposure.

1. NIPS

NeurIPS (Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems)

One of the most famous conferences specialising in machine learning, computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Top tech companies love candidates who have a publication in NIPS.

2. ICML

International Conference on Machine Learning

Clear by the name, it focusses on machine learning. It is also one of the 2 most prestigious conferences along with NeurIPS in ML and AI research. It was first held in 1980.

3. ICLR

International Conference on learning Representations

It focusses on the branch of AI called representational learning, commonly known as deep learning (focusses on neural networks). It participants include students, industrial researchers, entrepreneurs, professors alike.

4. CVPR

Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition

It has been held since 1983. It focusses on computer vision and pattern recognition. The specific topics for the year’s conference is published in advance.

5. ICCV

International Conference on Computer Vision

Its low cost (but high prestige) makes it popular among students and academics. Focusses on Computer Vision.

European Conference on Computer Vision

Very similar to ICCV

Held alternate years similar to ICCV, but in those years when ICCV is not held. Generally held in September.

7. ICASSP

International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing

Organised by IEEE Signal Processing Society. It claims to be the world’s largest and most comprehensive conference focussing on signal processing and applications.

Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence

Focusses on AI, organised by the body of the same name

9. IJCAI

International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence

Starting 2016, it is held annually, previously it was held alternate years.

10. JMLR

Journal of Machine Learning Research

It’s a peer reviewed open access journal on machine learning. It was published by MIT Press until 2004, since then Microtome has been publishing it. It is one of the most known journals in its domain.
