Today’s Action: Thursday, May 4th
Day 105 of Trump
The House passed the AHCA (aka Trumpcare), narrowly by 2 votes. Key takeaways and effects from the plan are HERE. Call your Rep. to let them know if you agree/disagree with how they voted today. Swing Left has already published a list of the 25 Republican Reps in swing districts to target as a result of their support to pass the AHCA.
LIKE A PRAYER.
Trump signed an executive order today, the National Day of Prayer, allowing religious organizations and churches the freedom to endorse or oppose political candidates without interference from the IRS. It also provides “regulatory relief” for organizations that object on religious grounds to a provision in Obamacare that mandates employers provide certain health services (e.g. contraception). The separation of church and state is an important balance that should be maintained. Contact the White House HERE if you want to share your comments and reactions with the Trump administration and SIGN HERE to stand against discrimination based on religious freedom. Contact your State Attorney General with this CALL SCRIPT.
Over 200 members of Congress have signed on to the Equality Act, which would add LGBTQ protection to the Civil Rights Act. Sign on as a citizen co-sponsor HERE and add your name HERE to call on Congress to pass the Equality Act. Also CALL your MoCs to ask that they cosponsor SJ.5 and HJ.53 and finally set the stage for ratification of the ERA.
The Working Families Flexibility Act (H.R. 1180) has passed the House. How did your Rep vote? Let them know if you agree/disagree! Call your Senators and urge them to oppose the legislation to support overtime & the 40hr work week. You can also call the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to ensure that the Senate version of this bill (S. 801) does not pass. 5Calls has a script available HERE.
