A Beginner’s Guide to High Quality Video Recording with CamStudio

CamStudio is a go-to free streaming video software that allows you to record high-quality or high-digital videos. Here’s a tutorial on how to maximise this software’s potential.

Step 1: Download CamStudio

Start by opening up your preferred internet browser and type ‘CamStudio’ in the search bar. You will find this freeware at camstudio.org. Scroll halfway down the page to find the download button. Once downloaded, follow the simple extraction and installation instructions.

Step 2: Install DivX Codec

After successfully installing CamStudio, you will need to download and install DivX Codec. This codec enables high-quality video production with your screen recording. To do this, open a browser window, search for ‘DivX Codec’, and click the download link from a reputable source. This software can be sizeable, but remember you only need the DivX Codec component which uses minimal space.

Step 3: Configure Settings for High Quality Recording

First, run CamStudio and open ‘Options’. Scroll down until you see DivXCodec and set it to DivX 6.8.5. This codec utilises both the CPUs to deliver optimum quality. Adjust the quality setting to 100% and auto adjust to 30 frames per second.

The codec includes a handy feature called the ‘720 HD profile’ that can optimise your video for youtube. There are advanced settings and different profiles, but it’s fine to leave these on default. The bitrate can stay at 3000 kilobits per second.

Step 4: Set Your Fixed Region

In the region settings, choose ‘fixed region’. After this, you will have the option to specify the resolution, preferably 64 by 360. If your screen resolution does not cover the entire screen, enable ‘pan’ so that the recording follows your mouse around the screen.

And there you have it, a simple, comprehensive guide to recording high-definition videos with CamStudio. Happy recording!
