Another One of Your Instagram #GOALS post

From one goaldigger to another.

Upon seeing a tweet that says “Become so financially secure that you forget that its payday,” you clicked Quote Tweet, add some text ‘#lifegoals.’

Browsing your Instagram feed and noticing a ridiculously happy couple with a romantic ‘When bae is mad and he—’ on the copy, instantaneously, you share and headline your post with ‘#relationshipgoals.’

A BuzzFeed post entitled “10 Places to Travel With Your Friends While You’re In Your 20s” dramatically catches your eyes from your Facebook News Feed. Next thing you know, you’ve already shared 5 of the same content, all saying ‘#travel #SquadGoals’

You see the pattern. You get the point.

Here’s a hard truth that everyone knows but everyone hates to painstakingly admit.

A significant amount of people’s ‘goals’ remain as goals. Should I ask you why would be rhetorical. With all the candor I uphold, I can say that people are more reactive than proactive. And I’m one of them.

We suck at making plans. If there’s a certain instance that we’re good at it, we tend to suck at execution — Figure 1: New Year’s Resolutions.

Not everyone has the patience to take a moment, reflect, and list down what they want to do. But everyone should.

If you live a dangerously laid-back life, you’ll miss out on things that could have been possible if only you would have planned and executed. Remember that Maldives trip you’ve been eyeing since 5 years ago? Have you been a detail closer into accomplishing that goal since that day you’ve thought about it? No? Well, I think I’ve made my point. Yes? Congratulations on making progress but did you finally go? No? What excuse do you have today?

There’s an extremely viable method to battle the pattern recognized in your failure in goal setting and achieving, and that’s called a blueprint, or as some people call it as a ‘3 or 5 or 10-year plan.’

It’s not about being anal and siloing yourself up through a suffocating narrow pathway on how you will proceed, tiptoe-ing, within the next couple of years. Just like a business, it’s developing your company’s mission, determining your goals to achieve that mission, and finally, identifying the actionable tactics that support your goals.

Take time to identify what are the steps or micro-goals you have to fulfill in order to get progress faster and more efficient. Look at the big picture. Then look really close at the things to be done.

Save up today and fully commit to consistency if you want to make it to Rio de Janeiro by 2017. Invest quality time in people and make them feel your genuine interest to create your #SquadGoals. Groom yourself up, improve your posture, and gain better listening skills if you want to meet someone worthy for your #RelationshipGoals. Study hard, develop a laser-like focus, and know to sacrifice things in order to achieve ‘Retiring in Your 30s.’

There’s a myriad of opportunities out there. Don’t get stuck at where you are and whom you’re with. Stop being vain on catching up with every trend that comes out. Finally, don’t let your dreams just become dreams.
