Is Chivalry Dead?

--

Man leading woman in walk

I walk slowly behind him,
Wondering why he’s ahead of me.
Maybe he’ll get the door,” a voice suggests,
As I keep walking, carefully stepping in the dark.

Trying not to bump into walls,
In this unfamiliar environment,
He stops abruptly, and my heart soars.
He wants to “guide me through.

At last, I feel right,
But he turns and walks past me.
I cannot comprehend,
Is chivalry dead?

I move ahead, heading for the door,
Patiently waiting for a signal.
A sign to let me know I can enter,
But there’s none.

I abandon hope,
Of course, I don’t need all of these.
I can fend for myself,
But I’d rather have a gentleman.
