Intersectional Feminist Foreign Policy (IFFP) created ‘The Uninvited Women’ blog as a reflection of the need for a diversity of voices and perspectives in international development and foreign policy.

Share your voice with us on issues that are important to you. We are happy to hear from women who are working on the ground supporting other women.

Subjects

IFFP wants to publish your work on any subject that is relevant to intersectional feminism with a focus on international development and foreign policy. Showcase your recent thinking on pressing development issues in a way that interests a range of readers (not just academics). This could be a topic that is currently trending and popular or something you think should be highlighted.

Be Brief

The blog post should be between 400–600 words

Use Hyperlinks Instead of Citations or References

The reader should be able to follow the links to find out more about your information source. If you are unsure how to create hyperlinks, simply place the URL in brackets where you would like it placed and we will do the rest.

Style

Use an informal, conversational style in your blog post. Many of the blog’s audience are non-specialists that are interested in these issues. We want it to be as accessible as possible and in language that everyone can understand, moving away from academic and technical language.

Try to focus on one or two central themes in the blog (for example: it may be easier for you to discuss ‘Workers’ Rights for American Women Post-Trump’ vs. ‘Feminism in America’).

Important Note! When using factual information, please ensure it is as accurate as possible.

Be Yourself

Don’t hesitate to give your opinions and personal perspectives, readers are interested in what YOU think.

Safety

IFFP has an anti-bullying policy and take your safety very seriously. If there are any additional considerations we can make, please inform us.

Translation

Although the blog will mainly be in English, we also want to ensure that articles can be submitted in other languages and we will endeavour to translate any articles from English to other languages based on access to translators.

Sending your blog:

  • Include a title for your blog post
  • Send a word document with your blog attached OR a short word pitch with your blog idea.
  • Include any photos or graphics in their original format. If the photos aren’t owned by you, send a link of the original media source.
  • Claim your identities: add any additional details about yourself and your identity which will help readers to understand where your perspective comes from. If you are writing from a perspective of power on a topic (ie you are a man talking about gender; a white woman talking about race, etc.), please contextualize your viewpoint.
  • We respect your privacy and will not share your name or identifying information, if you do not wish to have them included with your submission.
  • You can include an alias if you do not wish to reveal your real name, such as “HopefulinHaiti” or “FearlessInIsphahan” or “TooLonginthePinkGhetto”
  • Hashtag submission: if any individual has a #hashtag from a specific topic trending in the region, please add it to your post or @ us IFFP on social media in order for us to become aware of the trend and more people can use it

Our Time Frame

We aim to respond back to anyone interested in writing for us within a week, however, as a volunteer-led organisation this may not always be possible. but we will always seek to respond straight away. We will proofread all articles submitted to ensure clarity and factual information is accurate, so this may take time depending on subject matter.
