THE UNION: HOW WE ROLL
By Kameko Thomas
The Union is a co-working space and innovation hub fostering community, commerce, creativity, and culture for People of African Descent, and their allies.
Before you ask, the answer is “Yes.” Yes, it is still absolutely necessary to create spaces where members of marginalized communities can be productive, without having to sacrifice their personal comfort or be expected to hide who they are, or sanitize their cultural identity.
Yes, it is still absolutely necessary to create spaces where members of marginalized communities aren’t immediately judged based on the color of their skin, as opposed to the content of their character.
And, yes, it is still absolutely necessary to create spaces where members of marginalized communities can see their culture acknowledged and celebrated, as opposed to seeing it dismissed and maligned.
At The Union, we provide to People of African Descent what they don’t (and sometimes won’t) get anywhere else — and then some.
Any co-working place can give you a place to work from and meet, in exchange for a monthly fee; we give you MORE.
We give you a place to come kick it after-hours, so you can shake off the stress of your daily grind. We offer you a refuge from all the constant “othering” you endure, as you navigate the unique challenges of being a Person of African Descent, working in corporate America.
We give you workshops designed to help you trace your roots, so you can discover more of yourself, and truly begin appreciating who you are, and begin honoring the rare gifts you bring to the world.
We host “Tiny Talks” created to help you develop a more holistic approach to your entrepreneurial journey, and help you be as sound mentally as you are, professionally.
We also organize and host the Melanin Marketplace, so you can find and connect with customers who actually want to buy what you have to sell.
Simply put, when you join The Union, you become part of a carefully cultivated cultural ecosystem that’s created by you, is about you, and will grow with you.
We are The Union.
And this is how we roll.
