On being ugly
Fran Hoepfner

The ability to truly look at oneself and laugh is lost on most. This is an, at times, abrasive read. I think you are too harsh on yourself, but your last verses about your friends, the bachelor party, and being where you are supposed to be, well that was some of the most delightful writing and thinking I have read in a long time.

So you put on weight, so you got acne, so you let your hair get all manky, you have friends that don’t even bat an eyelid when others question why you are with them. Your presence is second nature to them. Belonging is one of the most beautiful sensations available to us. I very happy to see you appreciate it.

I look forward to reading more from you.

P.S. I too am an AoE.
