What Makes Geek Guys Sexy

Here’s the deal: girls like a guy who’s smart, kind, confident and passionate about what he does. Turns out, these are also the traits that many geeks have. Coincidence?

Source

You already know how I feel about geeks — I love them. Maybe that’s because my husband is one of them or because I have been working with programmers for a while. Either way, I can tell there’s something oddly attractive about these guys. Here’s why.

Intelligence

Don’t know about you, but I melt when I hear a guy talk about things I barely understand. Smart guys who talk about complicated stuff and make it seem easy are the best. Like, when he tells you why your voice sounds funny after you’ve inhaled helium, and buys a balloon to demonstrate how much faster sound waves travel when you exhale it (yes, my husband taught me that!)

But don’t be Mister Know-It-All or girls may be intimidated by you. If she sees a little doggie and says: “That’s the smallest thing ever!,” you don’t say: “Actually, the smallest thing ever is a quark.” As long as you’re not flaunting your intelligence to make others feel stupid, you’re good to go. Just remember there’s a difference between being smart and a smart ass.

Passion

People often fail to realize that a red-eyed programmer hunched over a computer keyboard in the middle of the night is fueled by passion. Well, also deadlines and coffee, but mostly passion. And when a person is passionate about something, it’s very attractive. It shows their commitment, dedication and ability to invest all their time and effort into whatever’s important to them. A passionate and skillful person is successful. Geeks tend to be very passionate about what they do, be it coding, science fiction or medieval reenactment. They follow their dreams. Just make sure his obsession is healthy.

Social Awkwardness

Geeks are often introverts. They’d rather spend time home designing Arduino robots, playing video games or binge-watching “Star Track” than partying. That’s where their social awkwardness, especially around women, comes from. But isn’t that cute? The tables have turned — now you can be the one to make the first move. Also, regular pickup tricks don’t work with geeks. You can curl your hair all you want — he won’t take the hint. What really helps is being honest and straightforward. Whether you find it endearing or exhausting, remember that shy is always better than vain. Like the song goes: “I need a shy guy, he’s the kinda guy who’ll only be mine.”

Confidence

Now you’re thinking: how can geeks be awkward and confident at the same time? Simple. They are awkward in a new environment around strangers, but they’re super confident around their like-minded peers. Have you heard two geeks arguing? They will demonstrate the full depth of their knowledge on the subject — which is a lot. Geeks are pretty successful in their domains, success leads to confidence. And you know that a confident guy is a girl-magnet (confident — not arrogant!) So, he may not be the most outgoing of people, but the confidence a geek emanates when he feels at ease is very tempting.

Geek Style

This one is subjective. Guilty as charged. But I just can’t help it when I see a guy in large black-rimmed glasses wearing a plaid shirt over a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. There’s something so elegantly-dorky in that look.

You may not realize it, but your geek next door may be a fantastic guy. In addition to all the great traits I mentioned earlier, geeks are great at problem-solving, attentive to details and don’t forget about the sensual hands that mastered touch typing. Today’s geeks are trendsetters who have the power to shape the future. If that doesn’t turn you on, I don’t know what will.

What about you? Do you find geeks sexy? Do you fall for smart guys? Or do you think there’s no way for a geek to be hot?
