#WeEat: Rudie’s Jerk Shack review

I got to Rudie’s Jerk Shack before 10pm on a a Friday night (The main restaurant in Dalston, not the one in Boxpark as I was too late) after a longg day of just eating nibbles and dessert and bubble tea. Do you remember how you felt when you first walked into Hollister all them years ago, when the lights were low, dim but with an energetic vibe? Yes that’s how I felt when I walked into Rudie’s Place; low lighting but the vibe… not very energetic.

The music was quite loud (Reggae or something like that) but still the ambience wasn’t exciting. Anyway, I was tired and very hungry and when I saw the menu, I was impressed😊

I always get curry goat when I go to Caribbean food spots but this visit, I definitely wanted to try Jerk chicken (despite my bad experiences with it; The ones I’ve tasted before have been bland). Although I certainly wasn’t in the mood for alcohol, it was really good to see the reasonably priced cocktails.

Let me also add, there was no door host, or no door host attended to me. I found my way to a table with a head signal from someone at the bar (not a big deal for me but will be to some!).

My waitress was lovely, kind and polite. I ordered the quarter jerk chicken with rice and peas, but they don’t sell this as a meal; have to purchase separately which I think is a bit odd. I asked about the portion size and she showed me a good example.

Now when the food came, I thought:

Big girl like me! I’ll finish this in two seconds!

Nope. Looks like a baby portion right? I’m telling you now, I was full quicker than I thought I would be. I was really happy with the taste and flavours. I did want more sauce though so I decided to try the Rudie’s ‘Nuff Scotch’ sauce and I oop…

The bottle says:

Fire inna di bottle

And I felt that 😂😂 this isn’t like your Nando’s medium peri peri sauce; I splashed a few sauce here and there and my mouth was on fire.

I was speaking in tongues!

I love the free water jar that they have and at this point I just wanted to dive in it. I almost ruined my meal because of that sauce but guess what? That splahh of FIRE was worth it; it’s a bottle of flames and flavour.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Rudie’s Jerk Shack and I will most certainly be going back. I paid £11 for my meal and it was worth it. The friendly waitress made the experience better and I love excellent hospitality 👌🏾
