The Delicate Balance of Trust
“Learning to trust is one of life’s most difficult tasks” -Isaac Watts
For some individuals, myself included, extending trust to others can be quite challenging. Many of you may be familiar with the phrase to “give someone the benefit of the doubt.”
This concept implies that people deserve unconditional trust, that they should be believed without the fear of potential betrayal.
To me, this idea feels daunting. I have placed my faith in others too many times, only to have that trust broken or betrayed.
Every time this occurs, it leaves an indelible mark, a memory that reinforces the belief that trust is not something to be given freely, but rather something that must be earned.
It’s like a delicate vase that, once cracked, it can be mended, but it will never look quite the same.
This isn’t to say that trust is impossible or that people are inherently untrustworthy.
Instead, it highlights the importance of discernment and understanding when it comes to building and maintaining relationships.
