Five Reasons to Remove Thomas Jefferson Statues
by Sean Joseph Watson and Harry P. Chavez
Last week, Donald Trump made statements that equated removing Robert E. Lee statues with removing George Washington and Thomas Jefferson statues. Many in the white media were aghast at Trump for equating a Confederate General to the Founding Fathers.
What’s our take? We told you what we thought about George Washington. Well, Thomas Jefferson is far worse. Here are five reasons why we should remove statues devoted to this wicked man.
- He’s white
We all know what white people are beyond a reasonable doubt!

How can you let such people live, given how evil and treacherous they are, let alone honor them? You give these people an inch, they take your whole damn country! You turn the other cheek on these fools, they kill you, your friends, your family, and your nation (I ain’t trying to be like white Jesus, fuuuuuck that!). And they have the nerve to say they’re doing it to save the world; just look at Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria. GTFOH with that white savior complex bullshit. As Son of Baldwin would say, just let them die.
2. He owned slaves
He owned 607 slaves! 607! He owned almost twice as many black bodies as there are that live in the entire town of Mentor, Ohio! He even sold over 100 slaves.
If that does not move your heart to understand that this man should be stricken from our parks and monuments, nothing will! To continue paying tribute to Thomas Jefferson would be an insult to those whose ancestors were slaves, such as Al Sharpton!
3. He’s a rapist
Just last month the room of Sally Hemings, who many refer to as Jefferson’s “mistress”, was discovered at Monticello. One of the greatest civil rights activists of our time, Shaun King, explains how she was not a mistress, at least how woke people define the term:
“Mistress implies consent. Thomas Jefferson owned Sally Hemings. She was his legal property. Thomas and Martha Jefferson owned Sally from the time she was an infant…When a man has sex with a human being he owns, consent is forced, no matter the circumstance. This is doubly true of any enslaved African living at Monticello — where whippings and punishments have been well-documented.”
Honoring Thomas Jefferson means you are honoring rape culture. Thomas Jefferson started an insidious precedent in American politics in which a rapist can be president; just look at Bill Clinton and Donald Trump!
4. He’s a Hypocrite
Jefferson was publicly against slavery. During his Presidency, he even signed a bill into law to prevent the importation of slaves from Africa. He even stated that slavery was the greatest threat to the survival of the United States.
Yet, personally, he didn’t want to end slavery… in fact, he feared ending it! Christa Dierksheide of the Thomas Jefferson Society says:
“To emancipate slaves on American soil, Jefferson thought, would result in a large-scale race war that would be as brutal and deadly as the slave revolt in Haiti in 1791.”
So he was scared that the very men, women, and children that he kept in bondage were going to rise up and treat him exactly how he treated them! Just like a petulant child who tries hiding a broken toy to evade punishment, Jefferson decided to keep a practice he knew was morally wrong going so that he could continue to guarantee his safety and wealth. Only a white patriarch could make the conscious decision to keep human beings enslaved because he’s worried they might be a little mad about their being enslaved.
Jefferson owned slaves until the day he died, yet had the balls to try to preach to the rest of the country that slavery was abhorrent! I can smell the rank hypocrisy through time and space! Only a man as two-faced as Thomas Jefferson could be not just accepted, but celebrated by whites!
TLDR version: Thomas Jefferson was our nation’s first “white ally.” 🖕
5. We could put up statues of The Jeffersons instead
The Jeffersons was a sitcom that represented the hopes and dreams of many black lives. Who hasn’t dreamt of moving on up to the East Side to that deluxe apartment in the sky? What better example to show black children than a family that fought through white supremacy to take a piece of the pie for themselves! ✊
This “tradition” of white, cis, male, Presidents dominating, raping, and destroying black bodies must end! The end begins with removing every public monument to these monsters! Their histories are not histories that are worth celebrating in any way. We categorically #resist what these men stood for!
