The Opposite of Love

I saw your heart almost instantly,

The way you helped others consistently,

You mirrored me almost perfectly.

I was so broken,

That I could not fathom your notion,

I was afraid you see,

That maybe you’ll begin to know me.

As we spoke more,

Others seemed to be a bore,

They weren’t able to explore,

Unable to see past the shore.

I took a step back,

My thoughts on a racetrack,

I was afraid you see,

That maybe you’ll begin to hurt me.

The opposite of love is not hate,

For they stem from the same mind-state,

I shed a tear,

As I realized that it was in fact, fear.
