Hi, I am Ryan!

I am a Yarn lover like you and, I have been crocheting and loving yarn for over 15 years.

I am a Youtuber and blogger who loves to share her journey with you.

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make while working on a yarn project is not counting the rows. When you do not have the track of the number of rows, then you can make mistakes and spoil your entire project.

One stylish way to keep track of all the rows is by using a row counter bracelet.

What is a row counter bracelet?

A row counter is an abacus style beaded bracelet that you can wear on your wrist, and you can use it to keep track of all the rows of your yarn project.

How to use a row counter bracelet?

Every time you make a row, slide a bead across the rubber band towards the successive bead. You can use as many rows as you want

Now, this is something that I have learned myself and, today I am here to share my experience with you. I am putting together this DIY blog on how to create a row counter.

Let us look at all the things that you need:

  1. Natural Braiding cord
  2. A key chain
  3. Pony beads
  4. Scissors

Keep all these things at hand, and then start with the following steps:

Step1: Cut off the length of the natural braiding cord with scissors.

Note: make sure you have a good length with yourself, it’s always better to have some extra length.

Step 2: Divide the braiding cord in half and pass it through the keychain while making a knot like this:

Step 3: Place your key-chain and braiding cord on a flat surface. Now, start putting the braiding cord through the beads from left to right and vice versa.

Also, make sure that you don’t twist both the ends inside the bead. If you do so

It will make it very difficult for you to move the beads up and down.

Note: In case if you are using tiny beads then make sure that you use a needle to pass the braiding cord through the beads, without twisting them inside.

Step 4: Repeat this until you have the right amount of beads that you need to calculate the rows for your project. Also, keep the distance between the beads as per your preference.

I like to have a good amount of space between my beads.

Step 5: Tie the knot at the end when you have the right number of beads that you need and, the final row counter bracelet looks like this:

To check that the braid is not twisted inside the bead, try to slide them. If they are going easily, then it’s alright and you can start crocheting.

But, if the braid turns out to be twisted then remember everybody makes mistakes and, try this 5 step process again.

One more tip that I would like to share is that you keep two different colored patterned beads at the start and the end of your bracelet for counting the exact row more precisely.
