What does a talent agent do all day?

How often do you hear from your agent? Every day? Once a week? A few times per month? Regardless, you’re probably wondering what they are doing when you’re not hearing from them. What exactly does your agent do all day? Agents’ days are very reactionary, and we don’t often know what is coming our way. So I thought I’d pull back the curtain a bit, sharing what some of those activities are by breaking them down into three categories based on urgency. Every agent and agency is going to have differing tasks and priorities. If I’ve learned one thing it’s that there’s always going to be something that plops into your lap that you’ve never experienced before and there’s no time to handle it like the present. So let’s dive into what might happen on a typical day.

Red:

“Red” items are urgent, requiring immediate attention. If a casting director/producer doesn’t hear from us in a short amount of time, we will begin to get follow ups to make sure we are on top of it. We never know when many of the “red” instances are going to pop up so these are the toughest to plan for. We could get 10 offers in a day or zero; part of the fun of being an agent is sitting down at your desk every morning not knowing what to expect (especially from this category).
