Fun & Affordable Things to do in Goa with Family
The most common perception of Goa is that it is a party destination and is a big hit among the youth and caters to a young urban niche i.e. people in their 20s and 30s. And while this is the case in many places around Goa, there is a lot people can do with their families as well. It is interesting to know that Goa was under the rule of the Portuguese until 1961 and as a result, is home to a world of cultures some of which include Konkan and Indo-Christian.
Goa is broadly divided into two main districts — North and South. North Goa is predominantly a party destination where people from across the world come to unwind while the south is known for its peaceful ambience, awe-inspiring architecture and idyllic landscapes. To make the journey even more memorable, a must-try for travellers are the many beach restaurants in Goa that specialise in authentic Goan cuisine.
So those travelling to either place for some family-time, the options to explore are:
Fort Chapora, Bardez: Chapora Fort is known for its panoramic view of the Chapora River. The original location of the present fort dates back to before the Portuguese lay siege to Goa. The fort we see today was a way for the Portuguese to stave off Maharaja Sawantwadi, an arch enemy of the colonial rulers.
Dudhsagar Falls, Madgaon: Dudhsagar Falls is situated on the Goa-Karnataka border and is a sight to behold. Located no more than 60 km from the Goan capital Panaji, this 310 metre waterfall is best travelled to by road. If an overnight stay is on the cards, one can explore a number of south Goa resorts in and around Madgaon.
