Can shops make us buy anything ?

You go to the supermarket with few ingredients to make a cake… When you leave, you’re next to 3 trolleys…

And only at this moment, you start wondering.

What happened ?

Braking zone

Every supermarket sets this “braking zone”. It consists in making you stop walking and smell that cooked and hot bread odour. You know it, right ? I’m sure each time you smell it, you want to buy 1,200 traditional french baguettes.

Which is smart, because it makes you buy bread and croissants… Only because it smells good.

Products combinations

If there’s a fishmonger in the supermarket you go to, you probably might notice that the lemon shelf is quite close to this fishmonger… Surprising, isn’t it ?

Same with pasta and ketchup or with wine and cheese…

Making meat red and bright

Most of the time, we don’t judge products properly. Especially meat, and it’s even worse.

Well. I wish everyone knew there are red neons above the meat to make it more appetizing.

It also happens with fruits and vegetables. Look, they put atomizers everywhere around food, to make it bright, and we can read “organic farming”… Right.

The price illusion

Imagine.

3 pens :

The first pen costs 9,99 £
The second pen costs 2,99 £
The third pen costs 0,99 £

9,99 is too expensive for a pen.
0,99 seems useless and… crap.

Then, for you, 2,99… seems correct, for a pen.

The thing you don’t know… It’s that the real price of this pen, is 0,50.

Thanks supermarkets

It’s time to pay

There is a line an hour long at each checkout in the supermarket.

BUT

The managers have thought and have found THE solution for you.
Candies, chewing gums, lollipops… Everything so you can wait until you pay. Amazing !

So… Do you actually need it to finally make your cake ?

I hope you enjoyed this article (my first one in english). Share it if it was interesting and if you want people to know everything about it !

Here is my video about it, a lot more developed, and in french :
