0. If you add an infinity of integers you find a negative number !

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 … etc = -1/12.

A young mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, had solved this addition and sent this formula to a Cambridge teacher. Then he had been invited to study at Cambridge during five years. He has been elected member of the Royal Society and Trinity College, to revolutionize the study of infinite series, to propose a new approach to Pi and to leave some theorems to his name. Although he died prematurely at the age of 35, he left behind nearly 5 notebooks containing nearly 3,500 formulas, which some of them are still unsolved today. For those who want more explanation, please read the mathematical demonstration published by the Cambridge Royal Society in appendix on a separate article.

  1. It rains diamonds in abundance on Saturn and Jupiter !

These two planets are the largest in our solar system and are filled with gas with extreme negative temperatures that under the effect of lightning produced by thunderstorms produce more than 1000 tons of diamond every year.

2. The Moon is moving away from Earth

A few cm per year. The Earth-Moon system is a linked system, as are our arms (the Moon) with our body (the Earth). To slow its rotation on itself, a skater spreads his arms, and he folds them on him to accelerate It is the same phenomenon that governs the rotation of the Earth and the distance from the Moon.

3. In a classroom of 23 students, there is 1 chance out of 2 for 2 students to be born on the same day !

According to the principle of coincidence in mathematics, we can even say that for a group of 57 people, there is a 99% chance that 2 people were born on the same day.

4. Hot water freezes faster than cold water !

This phenomenon is still scientifically unexplained. Discovered during antiquity, it was rediscovered recently in 1963 by a Tanzanian student to whom he gave his name thus baptizing this phenomenon by the Mpemba effect.

5. The Earth is slowing down !

The Earth slows its rotation on itself about 0.002 s by century. As the Earth is not completely solid (in fact, it would be rather liquid inside), friction forces act that tend to slow it down. It’s like spinning an egg on itself. If cooked (solid), it turns easily. If it is raw (liquid) its rotational movement is harder to get and hold.

6. Some Egyptians could have chased the Mammoths !

The Great Pyramid of Cheops was built in 2560 BC. Traces of some mammoths are found in Siberia until the year 1700 BC. So therotically, a motivated Egyptian hunter could have been able to cross a mammoths.

7. If you drop a feather and some object like a stone on the moon, they fall at exactly the same speed !

We all know that on the earth if we loose two balls with exactly the same coefficient of penetration into the air, the first being filled with stones and the second of feathers, they will tough the ground at the same time whatever their difference in weight. Now, if we remove the condition of the friction of the air by repeating the experiment on the moon, the feather and any object will fall at the same time on the moon ground.

8. The temperature of the brake discs of a formula 1 racing car can reach the temperature of the molten lava coming out of a volcano !

To prevent the plates from being deformed, hundreds of holes are drilled to promote thermal evacuation. This heat, which can reach around 1200 degrees Celsius, is mainly used to heat the rubber of tires to make a perfect grip on the circuit.
