A Walk (not quite) in the Woods

This morning we set out to investigate our neighborhood to scope out where a great cup of coffee could be got. We did hit the jackpot- a good cup of coffee and a delicious, greasy croissant sandwich was had along with a leisurely look at the Sunday papers/comics.

Fortified this way, we headed to a park whose name we didn’t quite know and the directions we didn’t quite have. Any way, we headed to the great outdoors. Driving around in neighborhoods we weren’t aware of making sure not to drive faster than the 20 mph speed limit. Not quite knowing what to expect, we got to a park with a hill, which will be great to slide on once winter snow comes, gate crashed a little girl’s party and so many folks’ disc golf game. Such gorgeous sunshine, everyone around seemed to be doing their own thing- two women walking/running up the hill, punctuating their run with planks and downward dogs and teenagers carrying their boomboxes while playing disc golf while we basked silently in the sunshine, reveling in the moment.

It seemed we were on this hill forever but the whizzing flying Frisbees made us retreat soon enough. We didn’t think our meditation on the hill deserved to stop someone’s serious game. We drove off for a walk on the Ice age trail which was another new discovery for us. Found some lovely busy caterpillars and millipedes and serious walkers and bikers. One day, I will come back here riding a bike and cover more distance than I can walk on my two feet. The prairie and the trees and the bike path were a great combination of the tamed outdoors which even weekend warriors like myself can handle easily.

It is good to find these places and a few minutes to enjoy them. Time is fleeting, everything changes and maybe the memory of these random times will last. Such a pleasant Sunday afternoon. I could make a habit of these days.
