Chinese Racism Against India & the Complicity of Google & AI Chatbot
On August 16, on X, a post by a bot in Chinese was found spreading fake information about how India and the US were arguing with each other at the Olympics, over a wrestler being 100 gm overweight. While the information in itself is wrong and can be assumed to have malicious motives, the more concerning part is that the term san ge, a version of a san was used, and Google automatically translated it into Indians.
Since, Twitter uses Google translate this is what Twitter also showed. Not once but in multiple tweets:
Here is, what google translate says when prompted directly,
“a san” — is a derogatory term for Indians in the Chinese language
The term a san has a historical connotation and traces its origins to the time when the British Indian soldiers were deployed in Shanghai, when the People’s Republic of China did not exist, and only the Republic of China existed. Since British Indian officers often said “aye Sir”, it got roughly translated into a san. There are several other anecdotal explanations on the origin of the term, and this is just one of them. However, the fact remains that the term is derogatory. In today’s context, the term means the dirty third world. It is a racist and derogatory term.
In the X translate option, we can see it relying on google for the translation. The google translate has multiple release versions. We have tried the latest once v3 and v2 versions, all of them showed racist behaviour. So, it is difficult to say which version X uses, but X having its own language experts, we expect an action from X (Twitter) against this.
But Google can’t be spared, it has to answer its negligence or conspiracy. We tried v3 release version, v3 beta version, v2 version and also Gemini, the Google AI chatbot (Googles’ GPT)

The above results were shocking and discouraging but it created a curiosity to know who all are biased towards India, is GPT Racist against India? The answer is Yes!

After providing feedback it corrects its mistake and tells that it has identified that particular word wrongly. But, the worst part after providing feedback also, it does the same when prompted again.
But all are not wrong the Lama model used by WhatsApp is not biased, Whatsapp-AI understands the difference. Here is the proof:

The answer is same, it is also Racist towards India.
No concerns left now! But a lot of questions, that we as Indians should ask these TechGiants!
Why is Google which has the highest market share in India for its browser Chrome, is promoting racism against Indians? — Not only through different version of its Translate but also through Gemini — its AI model.
“BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS ONE”
Here are some more figures that could be scary with respect to google translate. Google Translate has market share of 69.60% in data-science-and-machine-learning market. With these numbers and upcoming AI-ML models backed by Google translate it is a big threat for India.
Twitter needs to be careful and it has to scrutiny the results given by the external API’s it is using on its platform. This is also a wake-up call for other platforms that use Google translate API.

Why is one of the most popular AI chatbot, based on possibly the largest ML model on the basis of training data, is racist towards India.
How much biased data has been fed to it, how can we trust the training data of these AI-ML models and will this ever be corrected, because this is GPT4.0 we are talking about.
With AI chatbots being the future and the top 3 AI chatbots which makes 90.2% of market share of AI Chatbots, already being Racist towards India and supporting China, this Racism will be truth for us in near future, which we will not be able to defend.
We urge the Indian government to take cognizance and take necessary action against the tech giants complicit in China’s racist behaviour towards India, & also in demeaning Indians.
