How can you teach language via a low-content book?

Low-content books like graphic novels, coloring books, and notebooks with prompts are wonderful resources to teach language.

  1. Use your existing lessons and activities to create the book. Format and save it as a pdf.
  2. Start out with a coloring book teaching vocabulary. I created a series of vocabulary books that were easy to create. Especially when you use Canva, a free app to design just about anything.
  3. Next, understanding your audience is important. Besides coloring books, perhaps your students like stories? Teaching language via stories enhances comprehension. Plus stories with illustrations are memorable.
  4. Once you have created your book on Canva, you can download the book in pdf form.
  5. Create a cover page. For e-books save the cover page as a jpeg. For paperbacks save it as a pdf.
  6. Make sure to follow Kindle which has strict guidelines for creating the cover page and interior format of the book. More details on publishing guidelines in my course.
  7. Next, create a free account on Kindle Publishing.
  8. Upload your pdf onto Kindle and follow the steps to publish.
  9. Publish your book in ebook, paperback, and hardcover format.

Language Low Content Book Advantages

There are advantages to creating low-content books to teach language.

  1. Having a niche market. With the glut of journals and coloring books in the market, you may not show up in search results unless you paid for some aggressive advertising.
  2. Targeting a specific audience. Your students.
  3. Make royalty passive income every time a student buys your book.
  4. Turn your existing lesson plans and activities into books.
  5. Teach and coach others to do the same — another source of income.
