The excellent gaming keyboard from Razer, the Huntsman Mini, has a small form factor. Its compact size is ideal for minimalist setups and gives the mouse more room to move. It has per-key RGB backlighting, good build quality, and macro-programmable keycaps. We found the Clicky Optical switches that are incredibly sensitive and tactilely satisfying, making for the best typing experience. Unfortunately, the lack of a wrist rest makes it difficult to type for extended periods, and some people may find the layout a little crowded.
Build Quality
It boasts superb build quality, full RGB illumination, individually-lit keys, and macro-programmable keys on every key. Our unit’s Clicky Optical switches feel snappy because of their short pre-travel distance, and they operate with little effort. If you’d prefer, you can also obtain a keyboard with linear optical switches. However, the keyboard isn’t the most comfortable, and there aren’t any macro keys specifically for MMO games.
Design
Each key on the Razer Huntsman is independently lighted and boasts RGB backlighting. There are several pre-installed lighting effects that you can access right from the keyboard, but if you want to design a unique lighting profile, you’ll need the Razer Synapse 3 program. The keyboard itself has controls for brightness.
Other Features
There are a few extra features on the Razer Huntsman Mini. Many keys have a secondary use because there isn’t a row of dedicated media controls, navigation keys, or function keys. By holding down the “FN” key, you can access these extra features printed on the side of the keys. All keys are as macros, either directly on the keyboard or using Razer’s Synapse 3 program.
Keys
A “Sleep” hotkey puts your computer to sleep if you need to leave your desk, and a “Game” mode key, a Windows Lock that stops your game from being accidentally minimized. The Razer BlackWidow V3 Mini HyperSpeed is a small board with dedicated navigation and arrow keys if you like it. The Razer Huntsman Mini Analog is another option if you want a similar board with additional capabilities like an Analog Mode or a programmable pre-travel distance.
Optical Switches by Razer
The Razer Clicky Optical Switches provide the best typing experience. The PBT keycaps are comfortable to type on. You can be sure that a keystroke is detected because the clicky switches feel incredibly sensitive and offer lots of tactile feedback. Yet, the modest working force and the relatively confined layout can result in a few errors. The keyboard also doesn’t have a wrist rest, but rather high profile, which gets tiring after a while.
