I’m so excited that people are writing about this.
International travel seems to be the new status symbol among liberals, a marker that you are smart enough to value experiences over things. Yet not a lot of light shined on the impact on climate, while the smugness about big trucks and plastic bags rages onward. I swear I read an article about how to have a “green” vacation that included bringing a refillable water bottle on the airplane with no mention at all of the actual flight as a carbon bomb.
There are a handful of scientists and others who have stopped flying altogether to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak. https://qz.com/129477/why-im-never-flying-again/
I’m not that hardcore but am trying to make an effort to cut back on flights in general and eliminate short haul flights.
For the record I oppose big trucks and plastic bags and will keep flying, but I just think we should all be in this together and not be afraid to face the truth when something about our own lifestyle turns out to be contributing to the demise of mankind. Part of this is owning that all flights are equally bad for the climate — the ones to visit your dying grandma, the honeymoon, and the business travel. We can’t just pin it on CEOs unfortunately.
