I’d like the Buy a World a Coke Commercial

I’d Like to Buy The World a Coke

I’d like to Buy the World a Coke is perhaps one of the greatest ads in western world of television advertisements. The ad is also referred to at the end of Mad Men series. Don Draper is in this peaceful state of mind when there is a ring and it is suggested that he came up with this ad.

The ad was close to never being produced. Many radio stations refused to play possibly because it sounded very much like a commercial for Coke. And then the TV ad itself ran into a number of production issues. At first they had the idea of shooting it with school children next to the cliffs of Dover in England. But because of continuous rain, they decided to move to Italy. Once they were in Italy, they ran into a number of issues regarding faulty lenses and out-of-focus shots. It was the most expensive ad at the time, costing $250,000.

You can read about the story here and good ol’ Wiki.

ThisIsBlunt: Each time we come across this ad, we try to sing along but we keep forgetting the lines.
