Why We Invested in emporix

When the hybris team, who sold their commerce suite to SAP in one of the largest European startup exits, approached us with their Angel investment emporix, we were excited from minute one. While the software started out within SAP as their next-gen commerce solution the project was abandoned and carved out. Eberhardt, the founder lives ecommerce and has worked in the industry for more than 20 years, behind the curtains with hybris and Intershop, as well as at the forefront with his online grocery store Lieferladen.de.

emporix is a headless commerce solution, completely built on microservices with an API-first mindset. This allows companies to build their online store on a solid and stable backend infrastructure, while enabling full autonomy in developing a custom frontend. If the storefront has to be replaced every couple of years, the backend will remain untouched. emporix is positioning itself as the Shopify for enterprise solutions, with a strong focus on complex use cases and sophisticated backend integrations — which is again enabled by powerful APIs. Although the internet is far from being a novelty, ecommerce is still growing fast and whole industries have yet to bring their transactions online. If anything, COVID-19 has been the final push teaching us that ecommerce is not only a nice-to-have but rather a must-have and brought online grocery stores into the mainstream. We are completely convinced that emporix will be one of the main drivers supporting industries to move their business online, offering them the best infrastructure possible.

Therefore, we are more than excited to lead the company’s Seed round of €2.3m together with the hybris founder Carsten Thoma.
