How the Boy Scouts Define Scout Spirit

Since 1990, sales professional Thomas C. McDonald has led a team of qualified electricians and technicians employed at the Hanover, MA electrical maintenance firm Infra-Red Building and Power Service, Inc. In addition to being longtime residents of Hanover, Thomas C. McDonald and his family are highly involved with the local Boy Scout troop.

Established in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America outline its ideals in several standardized records of Scout ideology, which include the Scout Oath and the Scout Motto. A member who has internalized these values and exhibits Scout morals in their everyday behavior demonstrates what is known as Scout Spirit.

For example, all scouts take an oath to help people in their community. This manifests as Scout Spirit through altruistic and civilized behavior. Scouts are also expected to interact with all people in a friendly and respectful manner.

Additionally, young scouts following the principles of Scout Spirit must abide by the group’s motto, “Be Prepared,” by listening to instructions attentively and using their camping equipment safely. Older scouts may comply with this motto by undertaking training to order to assist during an emergency situation.
