Married couple movie(s)?
I feel as though I need to get an important realization about myself off my chest. First, let me state that I’m a dork. I’m a [comic] book reader, indie music snob, coffee lover (but only the coffee I roast or those of select shops), and a compassionate animal lover. I like to think I was ahead of most people who can fit in this box though this is highly doubtable.
50/50 and Safety Not Guaranteed are two movies that I am excited about — so excited that I recommend them to family members, friends and colleagues alike. I’ve even considered ignoring my mother’s advice and talking to strangers in a vain attempt to bring joy to their lives with these movies.
I began to rethink these recommendations over the course of two days after wathcing both films with an old college friend and my wife. Admittedly, it was the first time viewing Safety Not Guaranteed. After both films I was excited to discuss the movies and converse about love, hate, awkwardness, and a wide range of human emotions. That excitement was stepped on and smushed when my friend stated that the movies were “okay, I mean for married couples.”
Rather than bore you with a diatribe about certain movie genres I figure I might as well admit to myself and those of you in the land of the internet that yes, I love married couple/date night movies…but draw the line at The Notebook.
