The Rough Life As a College Student

The Help Guide organization does a great job explaining to the reader great ways that you can eat healthy while on a budget. There are several college students who do not have a lot of money to spend on groceries, so they decide to eat cheap . I know that for myself I would rather fill my stomach up with any type of food then go to the grocery store and buy a smaller amount of food as a McDonald’s meal. I used to think that it did not matter what you ate just as long as you were full, so eating healthy was not important, but the article that I looked has shown me several ways to find healthy food for a fair price at a grocery store.

As a college student I struggle to eat healthy and stay under budget on a day to day basis. There have been so many times where I would go to McDonalds and get twenty chicken nuggets for around five dollars because that is way more food that I can get than spending five dollars at the grocery store. Burger King now has a deal where you can get 10 chicken nuggets for $1.49. You can not buy that much food for that price anywhere. Even though that is a lot cheaper and you get more food, it is not as good as you would think. All fast food is bad for you which affects your body in bad ways. There is no real nutritional value to eating most things at McDonalds, and it takes a toll on your health. Eating a twenty piece at Mcdonald’s made me feel terrible, and I am sure that people feel the same the way. It is just so much easier to go to a fast food restaurant or any other restaurant and have them cook your food, bring it to you, rather than going to the store then going home, cooking the food, then eventually eating it; not only that but it is more expensive as well.

There is a documentary called SuperSize Me where a man ate McDonalds for thirty straight days. His health evaluated after, and the results showed how bad it for you. He obtained high blood pressure, high cholesterol plus many other health problems from his diet. That documentary should be shown in every middle and high school so that kids know the dangers of fast food.

I want to show people different ways that they can save lots of money while shopping at grocery stores. We need to purchase the essential foods we need to sustain a healthy lifestyle. The article mentions, “When produce is in season it is at its cheapest, as well as its best flavor and nutritional value. It’s cheaper to purchase fruits and vegetables such as apples, oranges, grapefruit, potatoes, and onions by the bag, not by the piece. You will fill more lunch bags and cover more meals.” This is a great way to get the bang for your buck. You also want to check out the freezer aisle because they sell vegetables and other types of food in bulk. Most grocery stores have huge bags of frozen fruits, vegetables, pizza rolls, Dino nuggets, and other inexpensive foods in bulk. There are many more tips on the website, I just wanted to give you a little taste to see if you are interested.

I hope that this article can help out people who are trying to eat healthy but are on a very strict budget. As a college student it is hard to manage school while trying to eat healthy on a budget, but you have to put in the work if you want to get anything out of it. This article could be your guide to take you into the right direction for you. Eating healthy has so many advantages that should be taken very seriously.
