I found the American trailer funnier precisely because (I think) the set-up is that of a “scary” movie — which made the contrast with the comedy punch-line much stronger than in the British version, where the set-up is more that of an “action” film, which in turn made the comedy punch-line less of a narrative break. We’re used to jokes in action films. Less so in horror films.
