Not Full Enough

February 9, 2016

The glass is half full or half empty? Well, there’s a third possibility: it’s not full enough! So is this sentiment positive or negative? To me it’s positive as I strive for doing things better and helping others.

Positive thinking is a daily part of stress management. The Mayo Clinic states “Positive thinking doesn’t mean that you keep your head in the sand and ignore life’s less pleasant situations. Positive thinking just means that you approach the unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way. You think the best is going to happen, not the worst.” You can read more at Mayo Clinic.

For individuals who are pessimistic, or realistic as I’ve heard, becoming positive can take a paradigm shift to occur. An example of a paradigm shift is people realizing the world is a sphere not flat. Leaders and managers have to have a positive attitude to give support, hope, and be genuine. People gravitate towards positive and happy people who can tackle difficult problems and provide and implement solutions.

The health benefits of positive thinking:

  • Less distress
  • Resistance to common colds
  • Better coping skills during challenging times
  • Better psychological and physical well-being
