Yesterday was an off-day
And tomorrow may be, too.
Yesterday was an off-day.
As I taught my “Spiritual Disciplines” class on Wednesday night, several of us were gone — health, school, family engagement, or other. I was super late to class—running medicine home to my sick kids. Later I was up all night with my kids, pulling back their hair while they threw up and went diarrhea at the same time. (TMI?) It made me think about something:
God knows that we have off-days.
But when we talk about disciplines, prayer, worship, Bible reading, we can forget that we might have off-days. So often, we get discouraged because we feel like these off-days make us unable to give the Lord the time we feel he deserves. But remember a promise of Jesus:
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
“Always” means… always. Not “when you’re on your game,” or “when you give me the time.” He’s with us, pleased with us, interceding for us, helping us by his Holy Spirit.
So don’t be discouraged if you have an “off-day.” We all do, and God is not taken by surprise. He’s not going to cut off communication with us for any reason. No, he’s with us… always.
