Selecting a golf club of the proper length is an important part of improving your golf game. The most important factor in selecting irons is the golfer’s height. A person measuring between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet should use a standard-length iron. Add half an inch in iron length for golfers up to 6 feet 3 inches, and continue with an added half inch in iron length for each three-inch increase in height. Likewise, golfers between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches should subtract a half-inch in iron length, and continue with a half-inch decrease in iron length for each three-inch decrease in height.
In addition to matching iron lengths to your height, golf clubs should complement your wrist-to-floor distance, swing speed, and ability level. If you are unsure of which type of materials or styles best suit your characteristics, consider having a professional perform a club fitting for you. Taking the time to fit your clubs can help lower your handicap as well as improve your posture.
