Glasgow St. Weekly is a project I imagined to share a few stories about global warming and climate justice with as many people as possible.

Glasgow St. Weekly — brought to you from Glasgow, Scotland.

Hi. My name is Thomas. In this article, I explain why I publish Glasgow St. Weekly and what principles I am following to select stories.

I am involved with Extinction Rebellion, a world-wide community of people fighting global warming by demanding that our governments and institutions tell the truth about the state of climate breakdown, take measures to radically reduce green house gas emissions, and reinvigorate the democratic process by devolving political powers to citizens.

But most importantly, I met a bunch of people from all walks of life that together have an incredibly diverse knowledge about the climate justice movement, constantly sharing stories and resources. Glasgow St. exists to share these with you.

Glasgow St. aims to be a space that regularly updates us with the latest news about global warming. It strives to feature a diverse set of stories reported from different angles, to help us understand the scary reality of global warming and imagine the world of tomorrow in all its complexity.

In return, I hope you do the same, sharing stories you find interesting and discussing your views with others. Those of you on Medium are more than welcome to link your own articles in the comment section. If you are not on Medium and don’t wish to be, send me your comments and I will post on your behalf.*

To stop global warming we must understand what we are up against, what others are doing about it and most importantly, what we are fighting for. If Glasgow St. can inform and spark discussions about our future and help us build our dreams, it will have accomplished its goal.

The Glasgow St. principles

Glasgow St. is transparent. If you have any questions — and by that I mean any questions — about how this news brief is put together, message me.* I will answer your questions in honesty. This is part of the process of reflexivity that I want to follow in this project.

Glasgow St. does not intend to provide an overarching, comprehensive expose of all the news about global warming and climate justice around the world. Rather, this is a personal project. I want to share with you those pieces I found most interesting in the last week, whatever they may be.

Glasgow St. recognizes that systemic racism, sexism and other forms of oppression are fueled by power inequalities. These inequalities are visible in news production and dissemination. This review will actively seek pieces that empower people oppressed because of their gender, race, age, sexual orientation, class, mental and/or physical disability.

Glasgow St. is produced in Glasgow, Scotland by a French-American guy. This means my knowledge of the news is more in-depth with regards to Scotland, the UK, the USA and France. That said, I will always search for diverse news pieces to share with you. I would appreciate, however, if you shared your own sources from around the world with me. Together, we increase Glasgow St.’s diversity.

Glasgow St. is not, and never will be, monetized. These briefs will never generate any revenue. I create this in my spare time because I believe Glasgow St. can be useful for you as well as myself.

All articles linked in Glasgow St. Weekly are available freely on the web. I will never link any piece that requires a subscription to access it.
