One comment about self-driving cars… if the goal is to save lives, the most economic way is to reduce the speed limit. I said this not because I am not a fan of self-driving cars, but becaues I just spent a month in China and witnessed the miracle of chaotic driving at reduced speed. The driving condition in any Chinese city is obvious beyond the realm of possibility of any autonomous vehicles. The paradox is that driving in big Chinese cities is actually very ‘safe’ in terms of accident casualties.

It also raises the less-spoken-of question, how much resource does it take for self-driving cars to reach the last 0.1% of safty requirement?
