Expert Intro—Niko Nice
Niko Nice is a Serbian born Canadian that immigrated to Niagara Falls an early age, due to civil war. Growing up in an immigrant community he was able to keep a lot of culture from back home while adapting to Canadian culture. While attending University at Brock University (St. Catharines, ON) he learned that careers in creative fields are certainly achievable.
Traveling between Niagara and Toronto, he established relationships with many Toronto artists, and eventually took on various Art Director and Design roles for many of them. Over time, he used his online presence to build relationships and travel between Toronto and Los Angeles. He’s worked on materials and items for A$AP Rocky, Juicy J, Daniel Caesar, Jazz Cartier, Roy Woods, Khalid, and Stwo.
Currently back in Niagara Falls, Niko is working to give back to the city by creating a physical incubator space in the arts & cultural district of the city — called MOONBASE.
Where in the world are you right now? Where will you be next?
Right now I am mostly in Niagara, ON. I am in Toronto often due to work and relationships. As well as LA a few times a year for similar reasons. Next, I will be wherever more MOONBASE locations can be established — a couple more Niagara locations might be necessary to fill the void in our creative sector.
What does “education” mean to you? How would you define it?
To me, education is the ability to understand the world around you. I always had a hard time reading and writing so education often came to me in the form of a particular moment. Whether it was understanding why something worked the way it did in a frame during a shoot, or how to work effectively work with someone brand new on a collaborative project.
Where do you think education is headed? Where will it be in 10 years? 100?
I think education is heading in a direction that will allow people worldwide to access information and resources that will help us understand the world around us. I believe that in 10 years the tools we use will allow us to access almost unlimited free information. I also believe that institutionalized education must change to a more liberal direction if we want the youth to continue learning at an accelerated rate while being guided by masters of craft.
In 100 years I believe humans will be a species that understands the world around us quite greatly, making perfect use of energy and resources, and thus having a super refined process of gaining information and storing it in our minds.
