Tinder for dummies — Part I

This post is mainly targeted at men. Based on the feedback I have received from the various women I have met through Tinder, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of that. So here goes:

1. First things first — guys with no pictures, good luck. You might as well start digging into your porn stash, because that is the only action you will get if you don’t have a profile picture. Don’t be shy. Tinder is pretty mainstream now. No shame in saying/admitting that you are on Tinder.

2. Guys, even if you have a face good enough to be on a CK advert, please try and have at least three to five recent pictures up. Also take some time to think about what kind of pictures you want to put up. Women looking at the pictures are making instant deductions about you and your personality which will influence their decision to swipe left or right.

3. Add a cute and intelligent description as well or at the very least try. If you really want to grab attention then something out of the box and unique is necessary. A standard ‘ Friendly guy, fun loving, loves to travel and an avid reader’ simply won’t cut it.

4.Guys with topless photos, yes we can see you work really hard at the gym. All those sit ups, crunches and a strict diet has really paid off but you know what — most women laugh (yes laugh) when they see guys putting up pictures of their finely sculpted torso, especially when it’s a ‘selfie’ taken inside a bathroom (they think creepy!!). If you have a good body then that’s great but find a better way of showcasing it. Perhaps a more natural shot of you playing soccer or boxing at the gym. That shows and tells something more about you than just ‘oh look at my abs or biceps’.

5. Try and put up some group pictures as well. That tells the women you have a social life and friends. Just solo shots of you sends out the message ‘ No friends, possibly no action and thus desperate !!’

6. Avoid putting up pictures with just you and another girl (even if it’s you with your sister). Women looking at it don’t know who the girl in the picture is and it can be a turn off. Some of them might feel that you are trying to show-off or worse may think that you are attached.

7. Guys who are attached/married — just don’t be on tinder, unless your partner is cool with it. It’s a only a matter of time before you get caught. A lot of explaining and potential heart burn will be in order.

8. Last but not least, don’t look creepy !!

In general just think of it this way — pictures is all you have at the very start,in order to get noticed. So use pictures which make you look good and show the kind of person you are as much as possible. Once you get a match then it’s onto the second stage but more on that later.
