Regenerative Community Development Update

Everyday the Regenerative Community Development grows. Since spring of last year, we’ve seen 12 new homes go up — with two more to be completed by March. Soon we’ll have 14 homes for sale.

That’s huge.

Opening this spring, a 12-unit apartment complex and a community building with bunkhouse.

The next big things for the development: we’re looking to open the community center and the apartments in the spring. Then we’re working on getting a retail space off the ground and have lots of different activities for people to do and offices spaces. That’s the next big stuff.

— Kimberly Pelkofsky, director of design and planning.

We’re excited and energized for what this year will bring.

These are our first seven completed homes. Three families moved in last year, with another closing on their mortgage soon.

Our single-family homes are organized into 3 groups of seven homes each, we call them thióšpaye.

This is Thióšpaye #2.

Lot 9 (second photo) is being constructed by our Workforce Development program participants. Lot 12 is one of our four-bedroom homes and will start construction in the next few weeks.

This is our final Thióšpaye. Thikáǧa Construction Company, a cooperative started through our Social Enterprise Initiative, has been grinding hard on the construction of the next 14 homes in our Regenerative Community Development.

Wakíŋyaŋ Opȟa Thípiuŋšpa, the 12-unit apartment complex, will complete construction in April. There are 6 one-bedroom units, 4 two-bedroom units, and 2 three-bedroom units available.

There will be a few rent options based on income, to help communities take their first steps toward homeownership.

Our Community Building is near completion, and we already hosted our first community event in December — a screening of the documentary Warrior Women.

The space will be available for community events, meetings, and much more.

There is also a bunkhouse, with rooms for relatives and guests to stay.
