People from rural or semi-urban areas prefer to keep back doors while building the house. This back door gives them access to a small piece of land for vegetable gardening, space to wash clothes, dry clothes, and with the supply of water, space for children to play, temporary storage facilities, etc.
But the individual houses in urban areas lack back doors or back yards to avoid theft, prevent rodents and reptiles, dust, or to avoid loss of space.
And houses in high raised apartments will usually have balconies instead of backyards which serve the purpose of the backyard to some extent.
