Try fun flavors like lavender strawberry.

CBD Gummies have quickly become the most popular way to consume CBD. That’s because CBD can taste kind of funky on it’s own, but the sweetness and fun texture of gummy bears make them much more palatable.

Gummy candies are much easier to make than you might think! The base ingredients are water and gelatin powder. This gives you loads of creative freedom to make your candies with the flavors, shapes and colors you want. If you like you can also easily add a sour coating to your gummies.

Tools Needed:

How to Dose Gummies with CBD

This is where a little math and planning ahead comes in. Fear not, simple multiplication and a friend to check your work will help you plan accordingly. Plus, no one has ever died from a CBD overdose, but you may get sleepy if you take more than you are accustomed to taking. A 25 mg dose per gummy is generally considered on the stronger side and would be like a vitamin, but everyone is different. If you want to munch on these gummies like a snack, try just 1–2 mgs per gummy bear.

To do the math, first decide how many gummies you want to make. The recipe above using this mold creates about 40 bears. Then decide how much CBD you want per bear, let’s use 10 mg per bear as an example. If you want to make 40 gummy bears with 10 mg of CBD per bear, you need a total of 400 mgs CBD oil.

Mgs of CBD Per Bear X Total Number of Bears = Total Amount of CBD In Recipe

The most cost effective, and easiest to work with option is this pure CBD isolate powder, which contains about 1,000 mgs of CBD for only $40. CBD isolate powder is tasteless and odorless, so if taste is important to you, CBD isolate is the way to go. Powders such as this can be measured precisely with milligram measuring spoons.

Keep in mind regular CBD isolate powder is not water soluble, but it will still be effective in your recipe. Check out this water soluble CBD isolate powder if you would like the CBD to dissolve completely. While CBD isolate is a cost effective solution and it may be easier to work with, it doesn’t have all the health benefits of full spectrum CBD oil.

If getting all the health benefits out of your CBD gummies is the most important thing to you, and taste and smell aren’t too much of a problem, try pure CBD oil. We recommend this Decarboxylated CBD oil for cooking. Since Decarboxylated CBD oil isn’t as highly refined as pure Gold CBD oil, it can withstand a little extra heat from cooking without burning off all the beneficial ingredients. While Raw CBD oil is a little cheaper, it has a much more earthy taste, but if that’s what you are going for give it a try!

CBD oil is very thick and paste-like. To make it easier to cook with, try soaking the sealed container in a glass of hot water to soften up the oil immediately before dispensing into your recipe. Avoid getting the oil on clothes or other stain prone surfaces. Like CBD isolate powder, CBD oil doesn’t dissolve completely in water. Stir well and fill your molds quickly to avoid separation.

Making the Gummies

Once you have determined how you want to dose your gummies with CBD, you can get started making the recipe. If this is your first time making gummy candies we recommend making a test batch without CBD first to make sure the mold you have and the flavors you choose will work well.

  1. Puree fruit in a food processor until smooth.
  2. Combine fruit puree with water, and honey (or agave) in a saucepan over low to medium heat and stir with a whisk .
  3. Bring to simmer.
  4. Sprinkle in gelatin (or Agar powder) incrementally while continuing to stir.
  5. Slowly add your choice of CBD oil or isolate powder.
  6. Continue to stir over a low simmer until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed and gelatin is fully dissolved.
  7. Pour the mixture through a sieve into a bowl to remove any fruit or gelatin pieces.
  8. Slowly pour mixture into gummy molds, pop any air bubbles with a utensil.
  9. Carefully place the filled molds into the fridge and let sit for 6 hours.
  10. After 6 hours, pop the gummies out of the mold and place in an airtight container and store in the fridge

Optional Sour Coating

  1. In a bowl, mix ½ cup sugar with 1–3 teaspoons citric acid to taste
  2. Gently toss a few gummies at a time in the mixture until well coated
  3. Store at room temperature in airtight container.

Your CBD gummies are now ready to enjoy! Be sure to mark them as containing CBD to avoid confusion.
