The strange force of objectification & conformity
Carl Jung once said in an interview to the BBC:
You know, man doesn’t stand forever, his nullification. … all seek … their existence against that complete atomization into nothingness.
I was looking at an article by Simon Baron Coen, famous for his Zero Empathy theory on human nature and hierarchy, putting leaders at the top of the pyramid as zero empathy human beings.
And i was wondering about this strange force of nature that sweeps through human society, that strange force of conformity that seems to appear in mass movements, totalitarian regimes and mostly in our time, through the hand of big companies or big data science. Furthermore, german psychoanalyst Erich Fromm added in his book The Art of Loving:
Most people are not even aware of their need to conform.
This force that happens to objectify or render millions as numbers. It’s a shame we don’t observe these phenomenon as part of nature as well.
What do you think this force is?
“The headlong stream is termed violent
But the river bed hemming it in is
Termed violent by no one.”
–Bertolt Brecht — “On Violence” [Über die Gewalt] (1930s)
