Rainbow in the Storm: A Sestina

Unexpected in the winds and rain

the rainbow bloomed in the storm.

Hard to breathe, in thick tension.

Facets of bright sky color shimmers

embraced calm with fierce heart pounding.

Some witnessed its rise coming home.

These lucky few nearing their home

saw through the grey muck rain,

covered their ears from thunder pounding,

and felt the calm under the storm -

filling each drop in light shimmers,

releasing from the day’s quiet tension.

Others could not see past tension…

Stayed out wandering far from home.

Tired bodies were weighted from shimmers

as they trudged wrapped in rain.

These few stayed in the storm,

hearts and minds filled with pounding.

Head ache from so much pounding,

length of time compounded from tension.

You can emerge from the storm

even when far from home

find temporary shelter in the rain.

Ease into these water birthed shimmers.

Those who witness the shimmers

would give you cover from pounding,

loan their havens beneath the rain.

Realize pathways are born from tension.

Create a sanctuary stand-in home,

witness this rainbow in the storm.
