Caution : Not really important case !

What kind of society do we refer to? This question has been passing through my mind in the last couple of months. I always say that we need a betterment of society, that society needs an improvement in every aspect of lives, that sovereignty for people need to be up-held. Those ideas or statement make me wonder on what kind of society i refer to. Then i analyze how people live.

I realize that the society differs from the lifestyle, the financial capability, education, culture, and background. In some countries the living standard reflect the shape of triangle or pyramid. On the top of the triangle is the high-class society considered as the best financial capability, in the middle is the mid-class society considered as the standard capability and on the bottom lays the bottom/lowest class society considered as the least capable. I guess the different class can never be diminished from this whole world. Mahatma Gandhi tried to exile the idea of class. Until today, subconsciously, we are living in the idea of different social class. In Bali, the Balinese ethnic also believe in the separation of class, the Brahmans as the highest human being, and the Sudra as the lowest human being. In some extreme cases, Brahmans woman finds many difficulties in marrying the Sudra man because of his incapability in fulfilling the life expectancy, and the family doubt on how their daughter lives. Even if in other ethnics and religion, there are some believes that all humans are equal in the name of God. I don’t disgrace the religion and the value of belief. As i’m writing today, i would like to analyze the condition of society.

Better class means better life

“Better class means better life” sounds really rhetoric. This statement has deeper meaning that what it is on the surface. The class bond is stronger the race bond, even religion bond. Why? People from the high class society have many opportunity rather than people from the mid class or even low-class.

Education

Education is another tool to gain a better life. That’s why people from all over the world are trying to feel the sense of education. Even further, United Nation declare that one of the basic human right is to have the education. In some develop country, school can be free for everyone.Even in Indonesia as developing country is having compulsory nine year study program so that people will be able to have a self-awareness and become educated people. Here comes the problem of education. Education is just like a food, not everyone gets it. Yeah this is a cruel world.

Life can give no mercy and it ca tear you down. People from the high class society have more financial capability, in the other world, they are able financially to fulfill not only the primer need but also the exclusive need. People from this class are having more chance to study in anywhere they want. They have chance to be able to join piano course, mandarin course, summer school, student exchange even study abroad. Then what happen with people who are from the low class? There is also chance of getting the best education, getting scholarship and such, but it’s incomparable with the education given to the rich. and middle class society? These people may go beyond the line of living standard or simple say their gratitude to God that they are not the lowest creature in food chain. In the end, the capable family will always remain in the highest food chain. The educational achievement gap is now almost two times higher between lower and higher income students than it is between black and white students. With the best education given to them, These high class people will remain the same. With the best strength and passion, Mid and low class people will gain slight benefit.

Relationship

Living in this developing world, relationship matter a lot. Starting a good business, creating new product, even marrying children are the impact of relationship. This is quite frustrating. People from higher income have tendency in having friends and acquaintance from the same income. This condition is of course beneficial for these people. It’s easier for them to have their business, go abroad, marry their daughter. So their family will remain the same.

Medication

I’m very skeptical about medication cost. The reality that everybody knows needn’t be shared. The higher income family need’t worry about how to pay the medication bill, while the lower income family have to struggle with the doctor bill in small clinic.

Lifestyle

In this world, there are three kind of people. People who are rich and people who are not rich, and people who pretend to be rich. People from the higher class may have different lifestyle from people from the lower income. Even if those people try to be modest, their lifestyle can easily define them as rich. The way people dress, the way they eat, the way they speak, even they way move their body depict who they really are. When i am in public transportation, i see how people talk to each other, i see how they dress, i see how the look like, how they behave. I come with exact question what kind of society i refer to. I try to look at the houses in my right and left, those are only small simple moderate house. I see children talking to each other in a very modest way. Then, i come home and guess what i see another part of society. I see minimalist houses with expensive furniture. When i look at the people living in that house, i see branded clothes, different lifestyle, different way of talking. I question my perception of society. This society differ.

What is the real society? Here i come with conclusion that this layer of society differs. This is problematic. Indeed. That’s why the government is trying to make it at least equal. The free education, cheap medication, cheap public transportation. Somehow the separation of class will always depict who people really are. The inequality will always be there. It seems like an utopia world in which people are equal. Even so, I sill support the equality ideas.
