I Still Believe!

Today I want to do one thing for you and for me, my goal is to encourage us.

We’ve been through SO much in the first 25 days if this year, enough to cause us to take a rest stop and catch our breath.

It seems to be one thing after another and so many of us are on edge. I’ve been on the edge for about two weeks. My level of agitation is so high most evenings after work I just want to be alone.

I can’t tell you that it’s one specific person or circumstance annoying me, it’s a variety of things.

Something exceptional must be on the horizon for us.

Have you been on the edge lately? Were you hit with some news this month that you never dreamed of getting?

Welcome to the club friend. There is help for us!

As I was sitting at my desk one day last week I began to ponder my present circumstance and a story in the bible came to mind.

It’s one of my favorite stories found in Daniel chapter 3, the story of the three Hebrew boys.

So, in this story the children of God end up in Babylonian captivity under the rule of king Nebuchadnezzar, a pagan worshiper.

The king takes the brightest of the bunch, changes their names and forces them to work for him as his advisers.

One day the king decides to make a golden idol and he puts out a decree with the erection of this idol. The decree states whoever does not bow down to the idol when they hear the music will be thrown into the fiery furnace and burned alive.

So the day of the idols debut approaches and everybody in the land bows down to this idol out of fear once the music plays.

Everybody bows except for Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego, they refused to bow to a false god.

When the king took the three boys into captivity they had names given to them, their original names were Hananiah meaning God is gracious, Azariah meaning God has helped and Mishael meaning who is like God?

The pagan worshiping king gave the three boys names that honored the images of false gods, YET they never changed who they were based off of the name the king gave to them.

I don’t care where you find yourself in this life, know that God called you blessed, favored and He cares for you. Not only does he care and calls you blessed, but He also promised to never leave you alone.

Don’t allow the enemy to get you to believe that you are identified by your circumstances, because God called you good waaaaay back in the beginning and in His eyes you are still GOOD! He made you in His image and after His likeness, that’s pretty awesome!

The king is in rage because they didn’t bow and he orders them to come to him. Once they come to the king he asks them if they were refusing to bow down to the idol and he tells them if they do not bow once the music plays again they will surely be thrown into the furnace.

The king is so full of himself and so oblivious to who God is he asks the three boys” and who is the god that will deliver you from my hands?”

Look at how lofty the devil can be. Look at how intimidating the enemy of our souls and sanity can try to be.

See, the king did not know what their original names meant. The king did not realize that not only were these three boys made in the image of the almighty God, but he was made in His image as well. He had no idea their names meant God is gracious, God has helped and who is like God?

Oh the devil is oblivious to the facts about our God!

Look at the response Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael give the king.

According to Daniel 3:16–18 they said, “Oh king we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 if that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, oh king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, oh king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.

Look at the level of confidence and faith these boys had in God in the face of a seemingly certain death!

The enemy of your soul would love to see you bend and bow to his tactics. He would love to see you wallow in uncertainty and helplessness. But NO!

You’re not going to pleasure him by doing that, you’re going to keep the faith and remember what God has already done for you.

Go back and read Her Legacy His Witness and see how important it is to keep the faith.

The amazing thing abut God is He prepares us ahead of time for what’s to come.

God gave us the word on keeping the faith and remembering because God saw what was coming down the line for us. He knew the opposition would be there.

Look at the three Hebrew boys, look at how solid their faith was in God.

The king of Babylon sent the decree out, they knew about the decree but they subscribed to a more lofty decree from the creator of the galaxy!

They knew Nebuchadnezzar had the power to put them in the furnace if they didn’t bow to his idol, but the also knew the Lord of lords and the God of all could deliver them of He pleased. And the Lords decree is we should NEVER bow down to a false god!

It is not recorded in the bible that the three boys were afraid to go into the furnace. It does not say they were crying and begging for their lives to be spared.

They knew not to bow to the idol because there was no real power in the idol.

It didn’t matter whose name was stamped on it, they didn’t care about the highest name in the land putting his stamp of approval on it. No!

They knew there is a name above even the highest name in the land, the Lord of the host of heavens angels is His name. Jehovah Jireh our provider, Jehovah Rapha our healer, Jehovah Nissi our banner, the one whose name we esteem high above every name, He is the God if ALL creation and they were sure of His ability to reign in every situation.

So when the king asked them “and who is the God who will deliver you from my hands?”, they knew full well whose hands they were really in.

They knew God is not a man where by He should lie, God is spirit.

We call God Father because of His attributes. I felt the need to stop and tell you this because I never want you to get caught up in the way we reference God. God is spirit and those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

The king had his mightiest men to throw them in, and the flames were so high it killed the men who threw them in.

The ones who were assigned to place them in the fire were the ones who were burned in the flames that were designed to kill them.

No weapon formed against you will be able to prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgement will be condemned.

I don’t care how strong the threat is on your life, the Lord will make a fool out of the devil for His name sake!

He will put the devil to an open shame concerning you! Don’t you bow or bend to whatever your circumstance is, God has you in the palm of His hand and NOBODY can remove you.

Whatever the enemy of your soul is trying to do to you, whoever he is using to attack your integrity and damage you reputation it’s going to backfire in their faces.

The disease that is trying to overtake your body will have to bow and become subject to the power of the almighty God.

Too many times God has proven Himself to us.

God is so awesome He swears by His own name!

God does things for us not because we are so good but it’s for His name sake!

No matter the dilemma you face keep the three Hebrew boys in your mind and remember what God has done before He’ll do it again!

We can still believe even in the face of something that threatens our lives.

I’m praying for us!
