The Guest, a sixteen-episode Korean horror drama series directed by Kim Hong Seon, is everything if you are looking for horror, mystery, suspense, and thriller. The cast is brilliantly convincing. However, it’s the storyline that makes you on the edge of your seat till the very end.
One would expect to see a lot of unnecessary cringe scenes in a Korean drama (No offense to Korean drama lovers!) but believe me when I say this- This show contains no extra romantic or cringe scenes! Thriller in the purest form!
The story revolves around three people- A detective, a catholic priest, and a psychic- with their dark pasts haunting them. It’s all about how they cope with supernatural occurrences happening in their surroundings and ultimately find their cause.
I, being a horror fanatic, absolutely loved the show! The eerie setting, brutal scenes, and dialogue delivery- can’t emphasize much- is such a good watch. As if that were already not enough, humour is used in its best form. Little punches and touches of sarcasm make it really interesting amidst an otherwise terrifying plot. Characters are excellently portrayed by the actors. Not even the adults but the acting of child actors is also a sight to behold. You start to share their agony and by the end, cannot resist but want to see more of them. Sound effects are also top-notch.
I have never seen such a fantastic horror show before. It’s totally different from typical horror. At the end of the sixteenth episode, you wish to see more of it and can’t help but wonder why it ended. Even after it ends, it stays with you. You won’t stop but think how great it is! I strongly recommend it. Shows like these deserve to be appreciated more and more. You can binge-watch it on Netflix. Although there is no such announcement for season 2, we can only wish!
