Shannon, Thank you for being brave and addressing this topic. I too am on a path of being a advocate for diversity and racial healing but all of my children currently attend private school, which is predominately white within the administration and the student body. My drive for diversity for my children is met in other places like our church and extra curricular activities, but they spend the most time at school. With all of my children attending this year, I will finally be able to come into the school without a younger sibling tagging along.

I fell a strong need to help become a voice of hope within this school. I have decided to pursue setting up a small group study for parents who are interested in learning more about racial healing. I will use Dr. Lucretia Berry’s What Lies Between Us study. It is because of my personal relationship with Lucretia that I went through the study myself for the first time a year and a half ago. My hope is to become a voice to help open eyes and stir up hearts toward racial healing and advocacy. I can’t say what our school situation will look like next year, but I have to believe that for this year, I was placed at this school to be a voice of influence even for just one person.
Keep up the good work!!
